Artist Statement on DIY

Over the past two years, I have been expressing my artistic vision through DIY performance art. I have written my own work/worked with other artists using our own budgets, venues, and mental strength to produce new and ever-changing performance art. As a self-producing director, I enjoy finding new ways to bring artists' dreams to life while giving audiences an affordable, quality, and immersive experience. I believe that plays performed in someone's backyard with minimal sets and hand-crafted props can be as immersive as productions with large budgets and full production teams.

While I also enjoy working with professional theater companies to create fully realized productions, I appreciate the accessibility and playfulness that comes from producing on a budget. I want playwrights to feel free to experiment and grow their work by seeing it on its feet in front of audiences. Therefore, I prefer to do staged productions with paper mache puppets and string(foot)lights over stage readings with scripts in hand. Overall, I want audiences and playwrights to fully visualize a work so that it can develop into the spectacle the artist envisions.
